Glendale is the perfect base with which to explore over 2000 years of history from Roman forts at Chester, Housesteads and Vindolanda to evidence of Border Reivers at Bewcastle and Lanercost Priory. Within an hours drive is Cragside the home of Victorian inventor Lord Armstrong, with its museum. Opposite is the Simonside
Hills and the Pennine Way, just above the lovely village of Rothbury which is nestled in the Coquetdale and the Cheviots.
Locally there is the town of Haltwhistle and 20 miles east is the market town of Hexham with its old streets bustling with shop-traders, its old gaol - which is a must. Hexham is quite a cultural centre with an excellent theatre and a wide variety of restaurants, bistro cafes and inns.
Glendale is situated right in the heart of the Hadrian Wall National Trail Path a must for any walker. Here you will find some of the best visible and preserved remains of
Hadrian's Wall.
The countryside here abounds with wildlife, flora and fauna. Most birds and animals known to the British Isles are to be found here including Red Squirrel, Buzzards, Kestrels,
Merlin, Deer and in certain areas Otters.
For our younger visitors there is plenty to keep them occupied with a local outdoor swimming pool, pony riding, boating and many other activities.
If you are a serious shopper, within an hours drive is the most famous shopping centre in Europe The Metro Centre, 20 miles west is Carlisle.
For the energetic there is canoeing, riding, shooting and fishing.
Whatever you are looking for in a holiday, Glendale is the perfect base with which to find it.
